The venue for all sessions is Bradford CVS
The course is FREE but only available to learners who meet the NLDC Learner Eligibility requirements
Additional tutorial support will be available to learners wishing to complete the assignments.
Places may be limited to 2 people per organsiation
To achieve the Award, Learners must attend the sessions(or majority of them), complete the required course work and pass the following three units.
Unit 1
Understand the Role of a Governing Body Member (2 credits)
Learning Outcomes
The learner will:
- Understand the key roles of a governing body in the context of an organisation's vision and values
- Recognise how to fulfil the role of a governing body member effectively
Unit 2
Governance – Strategy and Structure (2 credits)
Learning Outcomes
The learner will:
- Understand the organisation's current strategic position, direction and structures
- Understand the strategic planning process
- Understand the characteristics of commonly used organisational structures
Unit 3
Governance – Responsibilities and Accountability (2 credits)
Learning Outcomes
The learner will:
- Know the practices used for reporting and ensuring accountability within an organisation
- Understand methods used to ensure that the governing body meets its responsibilities

Who the qualifications are for:
The NOCN Level 2 and 3 Awards in Governance in the Voluntary and Community Sector are aimed at:
- Those interested in developing the knowledge and skills required to be a member of a governing body in the voluntary and community sector
- Members of governing bodies who want formal recognition of their roles and responsibilities.
The Award may also be of interest, and useful, to:
- Staff who work in a voluntary and community organisation
- Third Sector Support Workers who provide capacity building to governing bodies
Restrictions on Learner Entry
Due to funding restriction, learners must be aged 19 or over for the BCVS (NLDC funded) course and meet NLDC learner criteria.
Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements for these qualifications, but it is helpful if learners have sound literacy, numeracy and study skills. The ability to read and interpret given tasks and organise information clearly and coherently will aid the achievement of the qualifications. The assessments require a written answer - this can be submitted electronically or on paper.
