Aims: This day will focus on what the main statutory requirements are for health and safety, together with how to practically deal with health and safety issues in small voluntary organizations. There will be a balance between input on the legislation and practical group work focusing on what managers need to proactively do and how to respond to accidents.
Learning outcomes: On completion, participants should be able to
- Understand the main provisions of statutory requirements for health and safety, and the implications for the organisation's operations
- Brief team/group members on their individual health and safety responsibilities
- Carry out statutory health and safety duties
- Maintain and improve standards of health, safety and welfare of the team
- Ensure team is protected from risks to health and safety arising from workplace activities
- Recognize and deal with hazards and contribute to the prevention of accidents
- Investigate and report on accidents
- Interact effectively with safety representatives and actively participate in safety committees
