In-House Committee/Board Training

CVS Training has funding to provide free and low-cost in-house board and management committee training just for your organisation.  The sessions are:

  • Roles and responsibilities of management committees/trustees
  • Good Practice /Code of Governance for boards and management committees

We can arrange these sessions at a time and place to suit you - evenings and weekends included (with notice).  An in-house session means you can discuss your organisation in detail and work on the issues that are important to you.  The sessions are FREE to smaller charitable organisations and then we ask for a contribution towards time, materials and expenses on a sliding scale for larger organisations.

We can also provide facilitation for away days and planning sessions and training on Strategic Planning and Effective Meetings - quotes available on request.

How to arrange training for your committee or board

Download and return the In-House Governance Training Request Form and we will get back to you to discuss your requirements.

If you are in the process of charity registration or changing your legal structure then we will arrange the session once your governing documents are finalised.  If you need support and advice about setting up or charitable registration please contact our Support Officers (details at top of page).

Feedback from previous governance courses.

'We were given a clear overview of management committees and their legal staus by a well-informed presenter.  We now need to make our next steps as a committee.'

'Really good pace, checking understanding, plenty of time for questions.'

'The new Directors found the session regarding roles and responsibilities very helpful.'

'The session clarified the status we currently have and the status we are working towards.'

An excellent session - good to do this training as a board to get a reminder of our responsibilities.'

NB: The Code is currently being updated (Apr 2017) - we'll update when the new one is available but in the meantime the current version is still in date and useful.

Code of Good Governance

Code of Good Governance (small organisations)

National Occupational Standards for Trustees and Management Committee Members - the section at the end is a useful summary of the skills and attributes needed and could be used to form a code of conduct.  This hasn't been updated for a few years but is still a useful read for new trustees.
