Aim of course:

To show members of voluntary and community groups how to find and use social statistics in order to provide evidence of the need for their organisation's services. In particular, the course will look at using the Index of Multiple Deprivation and what it says about neighbourhoods in the Bradford District.

 

This course is aimed at:

Information workers in the Voluntary and Community Sector; anyone interested in doing community research, anyone looking for information to evidence a funding application or prove the need for a community project, anyone looking for information in relation to local campaigns.

 

Course content:

Hands- on experience of using the 2007 Index of Multiple Deprivation and other social statistics about small areas in Bradford

An overview of how to get hold of, understand and use government, legal, business and academic sources of information

An introduction to the research and information needs of voluntary and community groups and how to fill the gap between what we need and what is available – research methods

A close look at sources of information about the Bradford District
