The morning session of this course will cover general awareness of Mental Health issues, and will conclude with lunch at 13.00.

 

The afternoon session is aimed specifically at University of Bradford staff, and will provide information on how, or where, to get help regarding students or work colleagues suffering with mental health problems.  However, delegates from voluntary sector are welcome to stay for the afternoon session if they wish.

 

The following topics will be discussed:

  • What is mental health?
  • Truths and myths about mental health
  • Main sources of help and support for people with mental health problems
  • Recognising the signs of possible mental health problems
  • Suicide and self-harm
  • Case studies

Afternoon session for University of Bradford Staff.

 

 

The number of students in HE with mental health problems is increasing, and this brings new challenges. Additionally, mental health problems are the third most common cause of sickness absence.

Supporting staff with mental health problems

 

Please don't worry that you will have to become an expert on mental health all in one day - it is more a case of ensuring that you know enough about where to obtain appropriate help for affected students and/or staff, rather than having to deal with it all yourself.
